The Goal of Election (Ephesians 1:4)

This sermon explains that God’s election, described in Ephesians 1:4, is an expression of His eternal grace and purpose, showing that salvation originates entirely in God’s will rather than human merit, foresight, or effort, since believers were chosen “before the foundation of the world”. The goal of election is not debate but transformation: that God’s people would be holy and blameless, first positionally through union with Christ at regeneration—where Christ’s righteousness is credited to them—and then progressively through lifelong sanctification empowered by the Holy Spirit. This doctrine provides assurance of salvation, affirms that God has always had one unified redemptive plan centered on Christ, and guarantees both the believer’s security and growth in holiness, all ultimately resulting in the praise of God’s glorious grace as His people live lives of worship now and forever.
