God’s Sovereign Covenant (Genesis 6-9)

This sermon teaches that God’s covenant with Noah (Genesis 6–9) reveals the heart of the gospel: God sovereignly and graciously fulfills His eternal promise to save sinners through Jesus Christ, a promise first announced in Genesis 3:15 and ultimately ratified by Christ’s blood. The covenant with Noah is shown to be an expression of the eternal, unconditional covenant of grace made by God alone, grounded not in human merit but in God’s character—His mercy, faithfulness, and joy in extending grace to the undeserving. Through the flood narrative, the sermon highlights God’s unilateral action in salvation, the certainty and security believers have because God “shuts them in,” and the patience and seriousness of divine grace, which invites repentance but does not remain open forever. The account ultimately calls listeners to worship, trust in God’s trustworthy promises, and respond personally in repentance and faith, rejoicing that the same covenant-keeping God who saved Noah has graciously saved His people through Christ.
