The Doctrine of God (Selected Scriptures)

This sermon presents a Scripture‑saturated overview of the attributes of God, emphasizing that a right knowledge of God is essential to spiritual life and faithfulness. It explains God’s incommunicable attributes—such as independence (aseity), immutability, infinity, eternity, omnipresence, omniscience, and omnipotence—showing that God is completely self‑sufficient, unchanging, unlimited, and sovereign over all things, so that everything exists from Him, through Him, and for Him. It then moves to God’s communicable attributes, including wisdom, truth and faithfulness, goodness, love, grace, and will, highlighting how believers experience and reflect these attributes imperfectly. A major focus is placed on understanding God’s will, distinguishing between His decreed (secret) will and His revealed will, addressing difficult questions about sin, sovereignty, and human responsibility, and concluding that God remains righteous, purposeful, and good in all He ordains, ultimately working all things for the praise of His glorious grace.
