Why Should I Listen to Jesus? (Revelation 1:17-20)

This sermon introduces the book of Revelation by answering one central question—why we should listen to Jesus—arguing that Jesus stands above all other “experts” because His wisdom is perfect and comprehensive, and He personally speaks to the church through this book. The message explains four reasons to listen to Him: He is eternal (past, present, and future), giving Him infinite perspective and compassion; He has absolute authority over death through His sacrificial death and victorious resurrection, granting eternal life to His people; He has an unchangeable, sovereign plan that governs all of history and culminates in the redemption of believers; and He reveals absolute truth, explaining reality, interpreting His own revelation, and exposing both the condition of the church and the human heart. Because Jesus is eternal, sovereign, truthful, and redemptive, His words in Revelation—especially to the churches—demand careful attention and faithful obedience.
