Christ’s Heart for His Church (Revelation 2:1-7)

This sermon from Revelation 2:1–7 confronts the Ephesian church—and modern believers—with a sobering truth: hard work, perseverance, holiness, and correct doctrine, when practiced without genuine love for Christ and others, are not only meaningless but dangerously hollow. Though the church in Ephesus was faithful, doctrinally sound, morally careful, and tireless in service, Jesus rebukes them for abandoning their “first love,” revealing that their obedience had become mechanical rather than relational. The message warns that loveless faith leads to joyless service, spiritual burnout, and ultimately the removal of God’s presence and power (“the lampstand”), but it also offers hope through a clear remedy: remember the early love for Christ, repent of heartless devotion, and intentionally return to love-motivated obedience marked by joy, humility, and sincere affection for God and His people.
