The Wayfaring Stranger (Hebrews 11:13-16)

This sermon on Hebrews 11:13–16 calls Christians to recover a pilgrim mindset by reminding them that the faithful, like Abraham and the patriarchs, lived and died as strangers on earth who trusted God’s promises without fully receiving them, setting their hope on a better, heavenly homeland; it explains that true faith sees God’s promises from afar, acknowledges alien status in the world, actively seeks and desires heaven, and forsakes longing for what lies behind, and it concludes with the encouragement that such heavenward living is rewarded by God, who is not ashamed to be called the God of His pilgrim people and has prepared an eternal home where their wandering will finally give way to rest and joy in His presence.
