The Justifying God (Genesis 15)

This sermon teaches that justification—the heart of the Christian faith—is entirely an act of God’s grace in which He declares sinners righteous by faith alone, apart from works, ceremonies, or the perfection of that faith, and it uses Abram in Genesis 15 as the foundational example: Abram was justified not because of his obedience, religious acts, or flawless belief, but because he trusted God’s promise, which ultimately pointed to Christ, the promised “seed” through whom salvation would come to the world. The sermon explains that justification involves both the forgiveness of sins and the imputation of Christ’s righteousness, leaving believers free from condemnation and fully accepted by God. God’s seemingly impossible yet personal promises strengthened Abram’s faith, just as believers today are called to trust God’s Word even when circumstances appear hopeless. Finally, the sermon shows that true faith is accompanied by a transformed life: a clarified calling, a deeper understanding of Christ’s sacrifice, readiness for hardship, and confidence in God’s guaranteed promises, all flowing from a life anchored in the justifying grace of God.
